St. John 10:1-10 (ESV)
Jesus reveals that he is the Door for every listening disciple to access true life. While the world may try to use seductive methods to suggest alternate approaches to this life; Jesus reveals that he is the legitimate door to God’s living opportunities, the closed door to the threats that would aim to intimidate us, and the open door to every opportunity that leads to life. The promise of being the Door gives us the confidence to trust Christ for endless possibilities as he leads us to refreshing opportunities..
Point #1: Jesus reveals the legitimate door to access God’s living opportunities. Verse 10:1“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 10:2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
Point #2: Jesus is the closed door to the threats that would intimidate God’s people. Verse 10:7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them
Point #3: Jesus is the opened door to every opportunity that leads to life. Verse 10:9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Journaling Prompts:
How can our faith be inspired by Jesus revealing himself to be the Door? Why should we be mindful of alternative paths offered by the world to life? What did Jesus mean when he spoke of Himself as the Door?
