Let It Go – Luke 18:18-30
There is a strong temptation to give ourselves entirely to the efforts of the world when we move from poverty to a level of prosperity. Christ requires radical surrender as we follow him in the practice of extraordinary generosity to keep us free from this threat. When we surrender by letting it go; we overcome our tendency to trust in our own righteousness, we lack nothing and defeat sorrow, and we enter the kingdom of God. The joy of a surrendered life is that we have the authority to ask God for the impossible.
Point #1: Surrendering to Christ overcomes our tendency to trust in our own righteousness and trust in the extraordinary goodness of God. Verse 18:18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Point #2: Surrendering to Christ ensures that we lack nothing and defeat sorrow. Verse 18:22-23 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “There is still one thing lacking. Sell all that you own and distribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” 23 But when he heard this, he became sad; for he was very rich.
Point #3: Surrendering to Christ is the only way to enter the kingdom and is impossible without God. 18:27 He replied, “What is impossible for mortals is possible for God.”
