Scripture to Memorize
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ live the in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me”.
Galatians 2:20
Lesson Overview
This week’s lesson is about Paul’s conflict with Peter over the issue of Gentiles and the Law. By refusing to fellowship with Gentile believers, Peter acted hypocritically. Rather than courageously affirming the truth of the Gospel, he fearfully chose to appease a group of Jews from Jerusalem. Peter’s action suggested that those who keep the Law were spiritually superior to those who didn’t. Paul argued that the believer’s union with Christ in His death frees him from the condemnation associated with the Law. The apostle also said that the power of Christ’s resurrection enabled the believer to live righteously.
Life Awareness
The idea of meriting one’s salvation is popular. Those who hold to this view think they must do something to gain God’s favor. The Gospel of grace, however, says that we receive salvation when we trust in Christ apart from good works. In fact, faith is the key that unlocks the treasure-house of God’s inexhaustible blessings. As we learn in this week’s lesson, faith in Christ makes all of us equal members in the church and gives us right standing before God.
