As a spiritually mature believer it is highly expected of one to choose the love for a fellow believer, especially new converts, over expressing the liberty and freedom we have in Christ Jesus.
During Paul’s day, Greek culture was dominant and the Greeks were proud of their wisdom. Because of this atmosphere, the Corinthian believers were subject to following human wisdom which resulted in dividing the church. In this week’s lesson, Paul encouraged the Christians in Corinth to avoid trusting in human wisdom and focus on God’s wisdom.
We find in this week’s lesson followers of Christ not so different from us. They have wrestled with the reality of unmet expectations when Christ is crucified.
Jesus teaches us as the branch we must abide in the Vine. The only way for us to bear fruit or live productive lives is to stay connected to the Vine.
