Scripture to Memorize
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
II Timothy 4:18
Lesson Overview
As Paul sat in prison and awaited his execution, there were two points he emphasized to Timothy. First, when so many people seemed to be abandoning the faith, Timothy needed to remain dedicated to his calling and ministry. Second, with so many people trying to thwart the spread of the Gospel, Timothy needed to remain on the alert and be ready to fight against the spiritual forces of darkness. He could faithfully serve the Lord knowing that God would eternally rescue and bless him.
Live Awareness
It’s sobering to realize our lives will end one day. This thought should prompt us to ask whether we have accomplished anything eternally worthwhile. As Paul looked back on his life in service to Christ, he could honestly say that he had done everything God wanted him to perform. He had finished the race. Like the apostle Paul, if we want our lives to have eternal significance, we must commit ourselves wholeheartedly to the cause of Christ.
