A Brief History
Sukkot, commonly called the Feast of Tabernacles or in some translations the Festival of Shelters, is a biblical Jewish holiday celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh month, Tishrei. This year, Feast of Tabernacles is observed on October 2 – October 9.
During the days of the feast all native Israelites were “to dwell in booths” to remind them that God delivered them out of the “land of Egypt” and to look forward to the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ, who would deliver His people from the bondage of sin. This feast, like all of the feasts of Israel, consistently reminded the Jews and should remind Christians as well that God has promised to deliver His people from the bondage of sin and deliver them from their enemies.
Feast of Tabernacles Prayer
Here is the Feast of Tabernacles prayer Pastor Hillman prayed during today worship service. May it be comforting reminder of God’s love for us.
Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. You brought your people out with a mighty outstretched hand. You led them through that great and terrible wilderness as a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. You have desired from then until now to dwell with your people. In this we are reminded how in your great love you sent your son, the living water and light of the world that through him our bodies become the temple of the Holy Ghost. Let us ever remember that the Hope of Glory lives in us. May we ever be your reflection to the world that they may be reconciled back to your heart.
